Sonic Mars gets rebuilt into Sonic X-Treme which is never finished, Sonic Team refuses to share their source code for NiGHTS and begins work on Sonic Adventure instead, and the rest is history. The Neptune would've been a true successor to the Genesis with games like Sonic Mars, Astropede, Castlevania Bloodletting, and probably countless others, but instead we got the Saturn. ![]() Chaotix was literally going to be a mainline Sonic Saturn game before it was moved to the 32X, and we know that there were multiple Sonic games (Sonic-16, Treasure Tails, Sonic Mars) planned for Genesis and 32X before SEGA (most likely SoJ) pulled the plug on the CD, 32X, and effectively what would've been the Neptune with the Saturn. The Saturn didn't come until after those two. First there was Genesis, then there was the SEGA CD and the 32X. Until now if you wanted to play the original European release of Sonic CD for the Mega CD at 60 Hz, with its glorious Euro/Jap soundtrack, you had to use the generic Sega/Mega CD.
